ABOUT WEST LANCS GUNDOGS

training_1.jpgAt West Lancs Gundogs we believe we have something unique, we are not your average dog training establishment. Built on successful word of mouth, we cater for all gundog breeds, from Spaniels, (English, Welsh & Cockers) Retrievers (Labradors, Flatcoats & Goldens) through to the HPR group of breeds, such as Pointers, Brittany and most recently Bracco Italiano. By working on recognised methods believed to be the basis of sound gundog training by good socialisation, we will start your puppy off to a great beginning. If you have an adolescent we can also cater for him too. For the experienced Handler we offer refresher training through-out the summer months by training several times per week, thus enabling you to sharpen up a dog or keep him fit for Test's or Trial's etc.

Nick explains "First and foremost we cater for working Gundogs and their handlers, but Gundog breeds are kept as pets also and owners have requested that the dog or dogs be trained in line with their breeding, this is now achievable with West Lancs Gundogs, in some cases people have taken up beating on shoot days, entered Working Tests and taken part in Scurries at Game Fairs etc, due to attending classes and training their own gundog breed. If we can promote RESPONSIBLE dog ownership and the varying breeds used within our sport, then we are achieving something, especially the minor or rare breeds"

Nick was previously a Gamekeeper for the 18th Earl of Derby in Knowsley, Nick was at the estate for several years before moving on to a Single Handed post to run a private Shooting Syndicate based in Rainford, St.Helens. With previous experience of training and handling German Shepherds also, especially when employed as a Keeper and specifically within the Security Industry, Nick and West Lancs Gundogs can cater for other breeds based on a "one to one" system. Nick is also a registered supplier to Greater Manchester Police for search dogs ie drugs and firearms detection, various breeds are used for this work. We have found over the years that dogs who fail as a Gundog, for either squeaking or barking etc go on to make excellent search dogs and take to the reward based training very easily.
